In this podcast, we will explore wu-wei, the essential teaching in Taoism. Wu-wei can be translated as nondoing, effortless action, or intelligent spontaneity. It is a concept I have explored within many of my books and my documentaries ‘The Art of Effortless Living’ and ‘Effortless Action: The Art of Spontaneity.’ But in this podcast, we will explore it even more deeply including its importance for cultivating skills within a craft or in life that is something I explore in my new book ‘Emotional Intuition for Peak Performance.’ This is a precursor to my new book and must watch regardless. How can we reach an effortless state of peak performance in our chosen fields which reverberates out into our everyday lives so that we are in harmony with the Tao? Find out!

In this podcast, we will explain what the genuine individual is according to Taoism. In the Tao Te Ching and the Chuang Tzu text, there is a term used in Chinese known as zhenren. Zhenren is often translated as the true individual of Tao, the perfected person, or authentic sage. It is a genuineness that is natural to all beings, but usually only accessed by the great spiritual masters and is the essential characteristic of the mysterious Taoist sages. In this podcast we will unpack what the zhenren essentially means and how we can come back into alignment with it so that we can be an aperture for the Tao to enlighten the world.

The spiritual roots of Tibet lay in the native tradition of Bon and the migration of Buddhism from India. Tibet’s spirituality is a unique blend of both traditions. But how much influence has Indian spirituality had on the spiritual evolution of Tibet? Are there remnants of Hinduism in Tibetan Buddhism? In this episode of Ask Jason, I will answer a question about if there is a relationship between the path of Dzogchen in Tibetan Buddhism and Bon with Advaita Vedanta in Hinduism.

In this podcast, we will explain the secret power we all attain when we let go of control and trust life. This secret power is the heart of all the Eastern spiritual traditions, especially Taoism. Lao-tzu advocated for us to seek the low places in life, essentially meaning we should embody the essence of humility. In the same way water seeks the lowest places, but at the same time is the most powerful force in nature, so too are we if we understand this metaphor deeply. What is this secret power and how can we align with it? Find out!

We are trained to constantly be active because of the illusion that success in this world is the result of those who have enough stamina to handle the weight of stress we put on the mind and body. But to live our lives in this fashion is destroying our nervous system and creating insane people. To escape this trap, we overstimulate ourselves with unhealthy habits and a constant stream of entertainment. But none of this helps and it actually contributes to the problem. We are yearning for a way out of this insanity. We are seeking for a path of sanity where we can thrive without wearing out our being in the process. Taoism is a path out of the mire. It is a path that reigns in your tendency towards busyness, allowing you to feel comfortable in stillness and essentially doing nothing. Taoism is the way of inner peace at the core of our nature. Our goal in life is to follow this way and in doing so, we will bring harmony to the world piece by piece.

In this podcast, we will explain if spirituality needs scientific validation. A lot of spiritual teachers sing praise of their tradition and spiritual path when science validates some of their ancient spiritual knowledge. But why is it so important for science to validate spirituality’s thousands of years of extensive exploration into the nature of consciousness and the universe? Science is essentially the new game in town in regards to the exploration of consciousness and the universe. Why don’t science accept the thousands of years of accumulative knowledge gained in Eastern spirituality specifically? The reason is that science itself has its own set of beliefs based on matter is everything, even above and beyond consciousness. This scientific worldview is diametrically opposed to Eastern spirituality because the worldview of the great Eastern traditions is that consciousness is fundamental. This one opposing view and a lot more are what we will unpack in this podcast. Science has its own worldview by which it judges everything, but how does that apply to the great Eastern spiritual traditions which are complete systems in and of themselves. Does spirituality need scientific validation? Find out.

This is the official book trailer for my new book Emotional Intuition for Peak Performance. I know it may seem a little odd to speak about myself in the third person in the trailer, but this book trailer is for commercial use also and not just for YouTube. My new book was published June 16 and is available now with some amazing deals at this link https://amzn.to/2oZZdFm Below is the synopsis for my new book:
Reveals a structured mind-body system for cultivating effortless action and intelligent spontaneity for peak performance
• Details 4 fundamental habits and routines that are essential for developing peak performance and explains how to incorporate them into daily life
• Explains the cognitive science behind the development of expert skills and how the teachings of ancient Eastern sages align with these scientific findings
• Offers practices for cultivating physical and mental intelligence, fasting the mind, and harnessing creativity to achieve your desires
Integrating the wisdom of the ancient sages with modern science, Jason Gregory explains how world-class artists and athletes reach peak performance–and how you, too, can harness this “lifestyle technology” to make your actions effortless, enjoy intelligent spontaneity, and reach optimal performance at a peak level. Drawing on modern cognitive science, Gregory explains dual process theory, which divides mental activity into two spheres: cold cognition, analogous with rational thought, and hot cognition, based on emotional intuition–a theory anticipated by ancient Eastern thought, especially the teachings of the Chinese sages. The author explains that peak performance is impossible to achieve by relying solely on cold cognition as it cuts you off from the energy reserves necessary to excel. He shows how the athletic concept of being “in the zone” is based on practices that have become energized by hot cognition and thus instinctive.
Outlining a structured training system that blends hot and cold cognition, the author identifies four fundamental habits and routines that lay the foundation for a healthy embodied mind and mindful body and thus are essential for developing peak performance and success. He explains how these training methods are practical applications of ancient wisdom from Zen and Taoist traditions, such as wu-wei, as well as how they are supported by recent medical research. Building on the four fundamentals, he offers practices for cultivating physical and mental intelligence, fasting the mind, and harnessing creativity to achieve your desires.
Gregory explains how, with regular practice, we can use the four fundamentals to create masterpiece days. And, as the masterpiece days compound, you build an unstoppable momentum where success is inevitable.
In this podcast, we will explore the fundamental source of the universe and a lot more. In the three great Eastern traditions of Hinduism, Taoism, and Buddhism the source is described using the terms Brahman, Tao, and Sunyata. Though the philosophical perspective and general worldview may differ among the three traditions, the nondual experience of the source cannot be different and is only perceived as different on a linguistic level due to philosophical differences, something acknowledged by enlightened masters and scholars. We will dissect the similarities and differences of the three traditions and focus on a comprehensive understanding of the ultimate source of all existence.
